| Abstract |
This document is largely a narrative account of the execution of fifteen uniformed British and American POWs at the Mauthausen concentration camp. The witness states that the telegram ordering the execution must have come "from higher quarters"; the unidentified author of the perambulatory paragraph and the closing remarks states that another witness, Adolph Zutter, former adjutant at Mauthausen, "will testify that he saw the telegram ordering the executions and that it came from the RSHA and was signed by Kaltenbrunner" (p.2). The preemptory nature of these executions is remarkable; not only was the interrogation of these prisoners left unfinished, but the prisoners were not informed of their situation nor afforded any opportunity to speak in their own defense. The German officers do not seem to have been discomfited at these proceedings, but the witness, an interpreter for the RSHA, testifies that he "was terribly upset and could'nt [sic] believe this to be true" (p.1). This document is a typewritten carbon copy of very good quality on slightly browning, stable paper. |
