| Your Turn |
I am honored to communicate with you--as the new Chair of the American
Society of International Law United Nations Decade Interest Group (UNDIG). We
are all indebted to the initial Chair, Judge R. St. J. Macdonald of the
European Court of Human Rights, and, a member of the Faculty of the University
of Toronto. Although Judge Macdonald has been quite complimentary about my
role, I believe that it was Judge Macdonald who was the "draw"--inspiring a
number of you to join this group. On behalf the entire section, Judge
Macdonald, we take this opportunity to say "Thanks, and remember that you are
is still very much with us!"
For those members of the UN Decade Interest Group who were able to attend
the Annual Meeting, it is quite obvious that the Tiller House staff did an
outstanding job. There were numerous panels, excellent luncheon
presentations, and nothing short of an extraordinary week. Special praise is
due, given the added burden of coordinating this event in New York City--rather than the traditional location of Washington, D.C. (I barely escaped
with my life, when I jokingly sought confirmation of whether the 1996 Annual
Meeting would be in Paris or Moscow!) On behalf of our Section,
congratulations to the ASIL staff, the Annual Meeting Program Committee, and
the New York Host Committee (all listed in the meeting program).
Editor's Note: The UNDIG is a most modest group! There are only two entries in this issue. PLEASE help me to help others to be informed about your lectures, publications, and any other UN Decade-related activities. If in doubt, err on the side of disclosure! This particular portion of the Newsletter is one of the best ways for us to continue the process of cementing relationships among our members from all over the globe.
This final segment of each Newsletter provides the opportunity to comment on any topic of
interest to the UN Decade Interest Group (affectionately dubbed "UNDIG"). It has been a very
useful source for planning meeting agenda, new issues to be addressed by UNDIG, and the like.
Please take a moment to jot down any comments, constructive criticisms, or suggestions.. Send
