Contents: Founded in December 1999, the Identity Theft Resource Center (ITRC) is a national nonprofit organization that focuses exclusively on identity theft victim assistance. ITRC's mission is to research, analyze, and distribute information about the growing crime of identity theft. It serves as a resource and advisory center of identity theft information for consumers, victims, law enforcement, the business and financial sectors, legislators, media, and governmental agencies. Designed for ease-of-use by consumers, the ITRC website is organized into categories such as “Workplace ID Theft,” “Scam & Consumer Alerts,” “Victim Resources,” and “Consumer Resources.” There are also sections for the media and for law enforcement. Researchers will be interested in the site’s “Reference Library,” which contains, in part, ITRC congressional testimony, and the results of the ITRC’s 2003 comprehensive survey of the long-term impact of identity theft on its victims. Parts of the site are available in Spanish. |
