Contents: The National Immigration Law Center (NILC), founded in 1979, seeks to protect and promote the rights of low-income immigrants. NILC claims a “national reputation as a leading expert on immigration, public benefits, and employment laws affecting immigrants and refugees.” NILC is a member of the California Immigrant Welfare Collaborative and its board of directors includes law professors and practitioners. In addition to policy analysis, NILC conducts litigation and training and provides publications and advice. The website offers various articles and other materials organized by topic; topics include employment, public benefits, and immigration. One section devoted to community education helps to inform low-income immigrants of their rights and addresses issues such as eligibility for food stamps and cash assistance programs. Other documents explain affidavits of support and public charge provisions. For more in-depth treatment of these issues, NILC offers for sale copies of their print publications. Many of these include statutes, regulations, and sample documents. |
