Contents: The Legal Writing Institute (LWI), founded in 1984, is a non-profit that seeks to improve and promote legal writing and instruction, as well as educate the public and the bar about legal writing, reasoning, and research. Currently housed at Mercer University School of Law, LWI promotes its mission through various publications and summer conferences. LWI's website is a communication vehicle that provides information about the group's purposes and activities. While the site provides all the basic information about the organization, users may also access various publications, survey results, and other resources. Past issues of the LWI newsletter are posted to the site, as well as information about the organization's journal, which is published in annual volumes. To get an idea of conference topics, users may want to look at the past conference bibliographies posted to the site. Two features are of particular value to current and prospective legal writing instructors: the syllabus bank and the employment listings. Other useful resources cover issues of plagiarism and citation. |
