Contents: Demos: A Network for Ideas and Action bills itself as “a non-partisan public policy research and advocacy organization committed to building an America that achieves its highest democratic ideals.” In pursuing its goals of civic engagement, electoral participation, and economic justice, Demos combines a think tank’s focus on ideas with the strategies of an advocacy group. The website provides explanation and description of the group’s major issue areas of democracy reform, expanding economic opportunity, and improving the function of the public sector and promoting the public debate. Specific initiatives include tracking implementation of the Help America Vote Act; publishing an e-journal, Around the Kitchen Table, devoted to analysis of how economic trends impact average Americans; and a survey of researchers, think tanks, and others that have a goal of “rebuilding the public sector.” While the website provides information about Demos’s Fellows program and group events, the Publications section is most useful to researchers. In addition to the e-journal, users will find reports, papers, commentary, dispatches, and toolkits, all made available in PDF. |
