Contents: The TANF (Temporary Assistance to Needy Families) Typologies Database is sponsored by the Urban Institute. It is a compilation of “welfare policy variables, state economic and demographic variables, and the six key outcomes variables that they are hypothesized to affect.” The information was collected from every state and the District of Columbia, is primarily from the year 1999, and provides information on states’ polices, for instance, whether or not applicants for welfare have to be actively searching for employment at the time they apply. The user's guide provides an extensive explanation of what all of the information contained on the site is/can be used for, as well as easy-to-follow instructions on how to conduct a search of the site. There is also a section which provides links to other related websites. Included on the site is information on how to contact the research staff if necessary. |
