Contents: "Al-Muqtafi" is the acronym in Arabic for the Palestinian Legal and Judicial system. It was developed by legal scholars at the Birzeit University Institute of Law in Birzeit, Palestine (Birzeit has the largest law library in Palestine and is the most advanced in terms of services offered and technology). Al Muqtafi online was launched in 2003 and is available in Arabic and English. According to the website it is THE Palestinian legal portal, in use by most Palestinian Authority institutions: academic, judicial and NGOs. Al-Muqtafi contains the full text of all legislation enacted in Palestine since the mid-nineteenth century until today, through various periods of rule over Palestine. It also has selected case law, and international legal documents dealing with Palestine or the Palestinians anywhere in the world. There is a Legal Dictionary in Arabic and English, an online catalog containing over 10,000 legal books, links to contacts in the legal community, and links to other legal websites. The information in the Al-Muqtafi databases is searchable and browsable in English as well as Arabic. To use the website users must first register and establish a username and password, though registration is free. The search interface is user-friendly and allows for comprehensive search by keyword as well as a variety of structured fields. Documents are available in Arabic in PDF. Some documents are available in English translation in HTML format.
