Contents: The Agricultural Marketing Service of the U.S. Dept. of
Agriculture has been working with the National Organic
Standards Board to establish a National Organic Program,
and to draft regulations for the production
and sale of organic foods. Proposed government regulations
are always published in the Federal Register; they are now
being posted on the Internet, and on this website it is
possible for the public to submit comments electronically.
Comments must be submitted before March 17, 1998 (written and faxed
comments are also accepted), and will be available for viewing
within a day or so of submission. The website contains the
text of the proposed rule and of the parent Act, the
recommendations of the Board, source material on deleterious
substances in human and animal food, fact sheets and news
releases. |
