Contents: The United States House of Representatives Committee on Commerce issued subpoenas on February 19, 1998 for approximately 39,000 documents identified in the matter of State of Minnesota, et al. v. Philip Morris, Inc., et al. No. C1-94-8563 (2nd Judicial Dist., MN). The vast majority of them were posted on this website. The site organizes the documents by source (generally a tobacco company). The documents must be downloaded to be viewed and one must have the software to read .pdf or .tiff format. The indexes online for these documents show only the range of each document's rubber stamped number ("Bates" number). In order to know which document one wants, one must first download and view the index created by the tobacco company which owns the documents. These indexes provide the name of the document and its corresponding Bates numbers. Although complicated to find and view the documents one would want, the site itself is easily navigable and provides valuable information, while allowing the user to ignore easily the political trumpeting.
