Contents: The International Child Labor Program is a part of the U.S. Department of Labor's Bureau of International Labor Affairs. Their website provides information on current activities relating to reducing child labor worldwide and eliminating hazardous employment. The text of annual reports on child labor in selected developing countries is available in HTML or may be ordered online; these reports give statistics on child labor and describe developments in this area. Also at this site are the texts of public hearings, speeches and press releases by the Secretary of Labor, and links to organizations such as the International Labour Organisation's International Program for the Elimination of Child Labor (IPEC), Anti-Slavery International, the World Bank, and UNICEF. The ILO has two child labor home pages, one of which is aimed at children; one can also access the text of ILO Convention 138, on the minimum age of employment, which defines exploitative labor. In all, not a fancy website, but a very useful collection of contacts and information on this topic that will be helpful to those needing an introduction to the subject. |
