Contents: The United Nations Division for Ocean Affairs and the Law of the Sea (DOALOS) serves as the secretariat of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS). Its mandate is "to carry out the responsibilities entrusted to the Secretary-General upon the adoption of the Convention and fulfil the functions associated with its entry into force." The Division "provides assistance to States in the effective implementation and uniform and consistent application of the Convention," and monitors all issues relevant to the Convention. DOALOS's web page includes the text of UNCLOS, and sections on marine resources and environment; international organizations and institutions; dispute resolution; documents and publications; and conferences and meetings. Some pages are available in French as well as English versions. The design and layout of the site are unprepossessing, but it is up-to-date and keyword-searchable. |
