Contents: The Juvenile Law Center (JLC), a non-profit legal service, was created in 1975 to represent the rights of children who have come under the purview of public agencies, including foster homes, residential treatment centers, adult prisons, and special needs services facilities. The JLC serves primarily the children of Pennsylvania but provides expertise to national child advocacy efforts. The JLC participates in a number of national, statewide and local initiatives to ensure the delivery of health care in foster homes, implementation of the federal Adoption and Safe Families Act, appropriate placement of children in foster care, and proper treatment of juveniles in adult prisons. Full-text fact sheets covering various aspects of juvenile law in Pennsylvania, including privacy in delinquency hearings and records; child abuse; restitution, fees, fines, and costs; and teenage pregnancy and parenthood are available in both a hyperlinked version and in PDF format. Links to related organizations such as the Center on Juvenile and Criminal Justice, Children’s Defense Fund, and the National Association of Child Advocates are provided. While there is no search engine, a site map is available to faciltitate navigation of the site. |
