Contents: Building Blocks for Youth is an alliance of children's advocates, activists, and law enforcement professionals "that seeks to protect minority youth in the justice system and promote rational and efective justice policies." Among the principal members are the ABA, the Juvenile Justice Center, and Minorities in Law Enforcement. The alliance publishes a monthly online newsletter and press releases, and reports on the fate of youth in the adult justice system. These reports note the disproportionate number of minority, particularly African-American, youth arrested and charged with crimes, and that in recent years both juvenile and adult crime has decreased yet media coverage of crime has increased. Reports include statistics by race of offenses, arrests, and pretrial detention. Also included are in-depth newspaper and television reports on juvenile justice issues. The website is not searchable but is easy to browse. |
