Contents: The National Legal Aid & Defender Association website is a specialized resource intended for the practitioner, not the general user or activist. The purpose of the association is to provide resources for the attorney engaged in general and indigent defense, and legal aid, both informational and practical (e.g., a liability insurance program). "Defender Resources" contains many news articles and editorials on current defense issues, such as the recently proposed military tribunals for terrorists. The user can limit the information by state, which retrieves links to the important agencies such as the attorney general's office, the state police, and state and local defender associations. The website provides communication resources (publications, various newsletters, annual reports, press releases); a document database; a national calendar of training opportunities; news from the field; announcements of internships and professional positions in legal services; and volunteer requests. Although the site states that most of the latter information is only available to registered users (registration is free), the reviewer was able to access it without registering. |
