Contents: The Internet is built upon a centralized and hierarchical domain name system (DNS). The current governing body of the DNS is the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), a controversial international corporation based in California. ICANN Watch is a collaborative effort, devoted to being a neutral, non-partisan reference point for commentary and criticism regarding ICANN and DNS. The site is organized in forum format-- articles and news items are submitted by forum editors and comments from readers are appended at the bottom of the submissions. Anyone may comment, but editors are hand-picked by the site owners, and are made up primarily of professors, with law professors predominating. This forum structure works quite nicely, as this area is in a constant state of flux, and little has been firmly decided. While this site is mostly geared to those deeply interested in these issues, it has some good introductory materials for beginning researchers. |
