Contents: The Center for Justice and International Law (CEJIL) is a human rights NGO for Latin America and the Caribbean, which consults with the Organization of American States, the UN, and the African Commission of Human Rights. The members of CEJIL work to aid "in the implementation of international human rights norms in the member states" of the OAS. CEJIL provides defense, free legal counseling, education, and training in the Inter-American System for the Protection of Human Rights. The site gives a description of programs, annual reports for 1999-2001, and an extensive collection of links to international organizations, human rights organizations, and similar institutions for the nations of Latin America and Haiti. CEJIL also publishes a bi-monthly Gazette, with reports on topics such as refugees, women's rights, democratic movements, and the disposition of cases handled by CEJIL. The section entitled "Thematic files" consists of narrative reports containing many hyperlinks on subjects like disappearances, prisoners, torture, and children. The website is available in English, Spanish and Portuguese, with some documents (and all news) only in Spanish. |
