Contents: The First Amendment Center, affiliated with Vanderbilt University through the Vanderbilt Institute for Public Policy Studies, is a program of the Freedom Forum (reviewed in vol. 5, no.10 of InSITE). The Center seeks “to preserve and protect First Amendment freedoms through information and education.” The site is designed to provide research materials on key First Amendment issues and topics with content written by Center staff and guest analysts. Material is organized topically by freedom of speech, press, religion, assembly and petition. Within each topic one finds an extensive overview, news items, and links to additional content by subtopic. Links are available to Findlaw and Oyez providing convenient access to opinion and oral argument text. Additional components of the site are linked from the right side of the main page including the Center’s “State of the First Amendment” reports, which gauge how Americans view their First Amendment freedoms. A highlight of the site is the First Amendment Library. The library provides a directory of First Amendment cases, links to relevant web materials, including bibliographies, and First Amendment-specific U.S. Supreme Court docket information.
